A chance to... learn HOW TO WRITE MEMOIR (with me)
A few weeks ago, I went to New York City and met with a former writing student to talk about their project. This writer explained their idea to me in detail and the wheels in my head began to turn. How could I help them? What did I have to say of value? Then a thought jumped forward.
“Do you think you might be writing a redemption arc? It could be useful to approach your narrative in that way.”
The student paused, stared down, then up at me - “I’ve never thought of it way before. That might help a lot.”
I’ve saved these moments over the two years since my memoir, When They Tell You To Be Good, was published. Book touring, teaching, and interviewing has taught me a lot about the process of writing, editing, teaching memoir writing, and being an author - how to guide students in conversation on the more troubling and emotional parts of their narratives, providing in-depth feedback, and navigating the external and internal self. Engaging in this way of teaching and learning about others has been humbling.
So I’m glad to present a special opportunity to Millennial Writer Life readers. Later this month, I’ll teach a course with Authors Publish about How To Write Memoir.
What will the course include…
Four weeks of in-depth lessons on the art and craft of writing the memoir
Detailed feedback on your writing from Prince Shakur.
Personal guidance on the process of writing, researching, and crafting your memoir.
Access to live office hours with all of our instructors, even after the course has finished. (At no additional cost.)
Full access to our private community of writers, so you can network with your fellow students.
